Royal Wedding fun :)

Tonight I'm escaping the mummyhood and going out with the girls for some fun :) We've found somewhere that will let us watch the Royal Wedding on telly, we're getting frocked up and going out!!!

In honour of this regal occasion, yesterday I whipped up some headwear :)

I cut some shapes from a remnant of purple lining, melted the edges with a candle (so they wouldn't fray), added feathers, beads and buttons and hot glue gunned the whole thing to a piece of felt. I probably should have sewed the beads on, but limited time and it really only has to last one night.

I added a headband which I'm hoping I can layer under an up-do... I'm too old  not a headband sort of girl but I hate pins! I have a gorgeous purple dress that I picked up in the sales for $7, time to cut off the tags and take it out for a party :)

Something for me... at last!

I've been looking at all the pretty tops and dresses on etsy and in the shops and knew I could do something I would enjoy wearing. I got two tops for $3 at Kmart (yup, $1.50 each!), closed my eyes, held my breath and started cutting... I know it's sad, but even though it was only a cheapie shirt, I felt terrible mangling it, it was perfectly functional after all. I don't think it minded because here's what I ended up with:

I made the flowers from scraps, cut out the leaves from the 'spare' shirt, and added assorted bits of trim and beads I'd collected in Spotlight's oddment packages. Louise, I think some of your leftover lace and trim made their way onto the shirt, too.

Here I am wearing it... I *love* it. I would never have chosen yellow but I like how it turned out, so I'm glad those two yellow shirts caught my eye in the clearance :) A very good experiment, I think!

Total cost: $3. And I have plenty of knit fabric left to play with!

Up close... at Grammy's house

Last week we were early for a playdate at Grammy's house. We were there before aunties, cousins, even Grammy herself! After a quick disco (on the grass with the car radio for music), piggy-backing, and lots of looking up the road for the 'right' car to be coming, we decided to make a break for the backyard (much more interesting than the driveway, despite the (light) rain.

The big two headed straight for the tree house while the Small Boy and I did some exploring in the yard.

It looks like a place that would be fun for a small person to explore, doesn't it?

I had no idea this was how they grew!

I just love all the colours we found :)

The bunting is up!

The bunting is up!

After many false starts (who knew it would be too heavy for blu-tack?) the bunting is UP! Hooray!

And did you see the new light shade we picked up at the markets?

I'm still not entirely sure it isn't a fire hazard, but we never leave it on unattended so we should be right :)

Impromptu art class at the beach

I love the beach. Mr Z goes to school near the beach, so I am almost there almost every day. Today we decided it was high time we made the most of our proximity and actually went :)

We looked at different textures (and walked the plank):

We drew:

and enjoyed the view.

I love reading your comments, thanks for stopping by :)
